The Origins of Rome
The story of the founding of Rome is told through both myths and facts. The legend of Romulus and Remus is the most popular of the myths but is also believed to be a mixture of both myth and real life happenings.. The twins were put into a basket and sent down a river where they were raised by a she-wolf and eventually tried killing one another. Rome was officially founded on April 21, 753 BC., by the first King named Romulus. It grew into a very rich and powerful city. The word rhom in Greek means strength and vigor and is another possible way of how Rome got its name. The small, surrounding villages began to settle into what is now Rome, and the population increased with time.
